Fascinating Facts & Figures about NYC Parking Tickets

Please don't pay your NYC parking tickets NYC parking tickets"no questions asked"

In light of the abrupt termination of the NYC parking ticket "Settlement Program," I hope members of the driving community pay more attention to parking tickets; rather than paying them "no questions asked."

The Evil Empire has pushed the pedal to the metal in accelerating its revenue acquisition, and has increased hostilities against the embattled driving community.

Here are some recently released factoids about NYC parking tickets:

The NY Times published an article on March 23, 2011:

"The city issues nearly 10 million parking tickets each year, and about 1.2 million are contested in hearings"

The FY 2011 Mayor's Management Report, and NY Times article reveals a shockingly low number of NYC parking tickets are disputed. Now, there isn't even a reduction offered in exchange for your guilty plea. What good reason exists to pay your parking ticket blindly?

This data cries out to every, single, member of the driving community to:

  • Carefully examine the front of your parking ticket for mistakes. If a required element is omitted, misdescribed, or illegible, you are entitled to a dismissal of your NYC parking ticket, upon application
  • Take some of your valuable time to research whether or not you have  a legal defense to your parking crime. For example, a defense to a no standing parking ticket is stopping temporarily (2 minutes or less) to drop-off your Aunt Tilly. And...

When you're right-FIGHT! Please don't reach into your wallet and pay your NYC parking ticket fines no questions asked. In this treacherous economy, who doesn't like cash?

Jack, you are correct on one count. If a person is in the wrong and did commit a violation, he/she should pay. However, it behooves the violator to examine the charge thoroughly, as Larry suggests. That's all.

I got a ticket for $95 because I may have accidentally parked in a spot that was for permit holders only, when there were other spaces that I could have grabbed. It was dark and the sign was likely hidden under a tree. Was I wrong? Maybe. But $95 dollars?

I think the bigger problem is that parking violations do not merit the amount the violator is charged. I'd like to know how the amounts per violation are calculated, because I just cannot see how such drastic amounts can be justified. NYC Parking Violation enforcement is the biggest money-making racket I've seen in my lifetime.
