No Parking Ticket "Reduction" Program for In-Person Hearings

Confusing?NYC parking ticket

I was wrong about the existence of a smaller scale fine reduction program applicable for in-person hearings. There are no NYC parking ticket fine settlement or reduction programs remaining. They are kaput.

Here's how the DOF presented the announcement of the termination of the settlement program on the DOF website which I misinterpreted.

Commentary

I offer my sincere thanks to Sammy, who was kind enough to post a comment on Larry's Blog notifying me of his experience at an in-person hearing. He was informed by the DOF there was no fine reduction available any more to the driving community.

I re-visited the DOF website a few times, and re-read the above notice in the context of the information conveyed to me by Sammy.

This is a great example of our driving community helping each other get it right. In this case Sammy helped me get it right.

Thanks, Sammy!

P.S. Just in case I wasn't the only person scratching his head, I sent the following email to the DOF:

Mark,

I can't agree more.
Hopefully the move will backfire when the ticket holders of the $7M tickets that people and businesses pay without question, wake-up and smell something other than roses!

Thanks for sharing your reaction to the termination of a program that helped all of us,

Best,
Larry

Steve,

I love your idea.
Can you imagine what would happen in the Criminal Justice System if plea bargins were terminated.

I hope the driving public that pays the 7M parking tickets without question...Start to question.

Thanks for stopping by.
Park safely.

Larry, thanka again for the great work. Not sure I saw answers to these on your blog, so I thought I'd ask:

1) I have a 6 year old ticket in judgement showing up, # 7308186131 for $253. It's on an old car, not my current. When they look up cars, will they tow me if they spot/ticket my new car with different plates?

2) I recently had a ticket that they dismissed for getting the meter receipt within a minute of getting the ticket. Now, the ticket I noted above, says $0 due. Can that be? Did something happen whereas they made an error and now it's no longer due?

Thanks!

Dan,

My pleasure.

1. Answer: Your new vehicle is subject to a tow, ONLY if you get a new parking ticket. Sheriff and Marshall hunting licenses begin at $350.00 in unpaid judgments.

You may wish to check out today's blog post for a chart that will keep you reminded about these draconian towing rules.

2. Answer: If you are referring to the 6-year old parking ticket in judgment, "$0" due is a good thing. If you'd like me to look it up for you, email me your plate number., and 10-digit parking ticket number
(email: nyparkingticket@optonline.net)

Looking forward to your reply.
Best,
Larry

So since the settlement program ended and I can no longer get a discount for just showing up at the DMV.... Can i still get a discount for disputing the ticket online?

Ms. Blues,

Good evening.
I think Booby Blue Bland and BB King missed a great subject to write a song about..."I've got the Fire Hydrant Blues."

I applaud your resourcefulness in trying to find a suitable solution, but the fine reduction program is kaput; regardless of the forum in which you choose to fight. Sorry...

I trust you've checked for mistakes, and paid particular attention to the location the warrior claims you parked in relationship to the pump?

Good luck.
Best,
Larry
