How to Apply for a Reduction of your NYC Parking Ticket Fine

Ouch. Just what I needed. A NYC parking ticket for double parking, with a fine of $115. The truth of the matter is I am guilty of double parking. Is there anything I can do to reduce my fine?

Absolutely, positively, yes. You can apply for a NYC parking ticket fine reduction. The slide show is a step-by-step guide to the process. I hope you find it helpful!

Ohr,
I am sorry to report the DOF does not offer a reduction for a safety zone violation. Please don't be angry at the messenger.

Good luck.

I was given a $115 ticket this Sat in a no standing zone. My ticket is not in the database yet. Am I able to go to the Dept of Finance in person to receive a reduction or does it have to be online? Thanks!!

Steven,

You can go in person to one of the business offices located in the boroughs, and you'll be offered a reduced fine; if your parking ticket is eligible.

Before pleading guilty, did you check for mistakes on the front of your parking ticket? Please be sure there are no omitted, misdescribed, or illegible required elements on the front of your parking ticket. If so, you are entitled to a dismissal upon application.

No defense to the infraction, either?

Is there a reduction for parking in a bike lane? I also wonder in nyc if you have a speeding ticket over 21 and you go to court can you get a reduction on the fine and points like a speeding ticket in upstate "Albany" AND other get the $300 assessment waived when you are in court. thanks

Hi, which type of red light ticket is available for reduction? caught by the camera $50 or caught by the cop $175 or BOTH.
Posted @ Monday, July 18, 2011 11:31 PM by Huang
Danny,
Good morning.
Thanks for taking your valuable time to visit our website and pose a great question.

The way you determine whether a bike lane ticket is eligible for a reduced fine is to follow the instructions in the above power point by applying for a fine reduction.

If a reduction is available for this violation, a screen will appear offering you the reduced fine in exchange for your guilty plea. If no screen with a reduction appears, then simply leave the DOF website; and decide whether you wish to pay the full freight or fight the ticket.

I am sorry to report, I am not knowledgeable about traffic tickets. I refer our website friends to a colleague of mine, Matt Weiss, Esquire, who has dedicated his legal practice to making traffic tickets easy for his clients.

Here's a link to Matt's website.

Danny, let me know whether you are offered a reduced fine for a bike lane violation, and I'll share the information with our community.

Good luck.

Huang,

Good morning. I do not have any special knowledge about red light camera violations, except to say my son gets a lot.

Good luck in your search for information.

Good Moorning,

I received a ticket for standing in crosswalk. Do you think I can be offered a fine reduction?

Thank you

Hi Bisera,

It was great speaking with your earlier today. How'd you do with the reduction? Was it available for your violation?

Best wishes for a joyous holiday season.

Hey Larry, this site has been very helpful! I still had a couple questions though. I got a ticket for no standing except authorized vehicles. There was a sign that said no parking 8-10:30 am with one arrow. But the sign was placed horizontally, so it was hard to tell which side the arrow was pointing too. I assumed it was both sides. I saw the no standing sign but that was far ahead and there was a yellow line in between where I parked and the no standing sign. If you type in 443 East 13th street in gmaps and see where there's a bunch of bikes that's where my car was parked. I took some photos of the ambiguous sign and how my car was parked before the yellow line. So I believed I was safe. So do you think I have a chance of getting out of the ticket? Is it true that if you try to dispute and you fail you have to pay the full fine? I have a NJ license plate and the CD is NS, exp. date is N/A, the color is wrong, the year is N/S, the VIN is blank, and there are no comments by the officer. I don't know if this stuff matters though because it's a NJ license plate. It's for $95. And if you don't think I have a chance how much would I get my ticket reduced by if I decided to pay the reduced fare. I'm really sorry for the long post and many questions but these parking tickets are a pain! Thanks so much for all the help!

Rohit,

Good evening.
I am super happy you found our website helpful.

Let's take the second part of your questions, first. A parking ticket warrior is not required to personally appear at a parking ticket hearing.

In exchange for her non-appearance, there are certain bite sized bits of information he is required to correctly enter on the front of your parking ticket. These bite sized bits of info are called "required elements." If a required element is omitted, misdescribed, or illegible, you win upon application.

I am sorry to report all of the bite size bits of info you refer to in your comments are NOT required elements. Sorry, no get-out-of-jail free card on that defense.

The other questions are beyond the scope of this blog for me to answer. It is difficult to visualize all of the factors you refer to, even with out-dated gm images.

If you'd like me to review this information, please take a moment to check out "Larry's Advice" (it's almost free). If you'd like my help, just give me a call. I'm happy to help.

Good luck.

FYI the online fine reduction program has been discontinued effective 1/31/2012.

Are there any other fee reduction programs?

Hi HT,

Good evening.
Thanks for the "Heads-Up."
However, I was painfully aware of this black letter day in NYC parking ticket land.

I know of no other fine reduction programs. It's pay up or fight.

Park safely.
Good luck.

I just noticed the fine reduction program has ended. I dont want to go in person to court. But if I enter a defense online that gets rejected, can I still pay online and not go through the hassel of going into court. I'd rather just pay then travel in, but I want to take a chance on rquesting a hearing and maybe I can get it dismissed or reduced?

Hi,

Ijust received in the mail a photo

of my car traveling in bus lane and not making the immediate right turn. Is there anything I can do to have it reduced? ($115)

Thanks,

Hi Mee,

I would check the front of your parking ticket for mistakes. If a required element is omitted, misdescribed, or illegible...You win, upon application.

If not...well...you know the drill.

Good luck.
