Don't Park in Front of a NYC Driveway until you read this

The NYC driveway rule

Is it ever legal to park in front of a driveway in NYC?

I frequently receive telephone calls and comments from the wonderful members of the NYC driving community asking about driveway parking rules. Many friends want to know about the legality of saving spaces in front of driveways (It is never, ever legal to save a parking space on a NYC roadway...period). Other friends want to know whether a car is permitted to block an active driveway. While other friends want to know when they can park in front of their own private driveways.

Did Joe violate the NYC parking rules against parking in a crosswalk, and/or parking in front of an active driveway?

Joe parked his mini-van in front of his house for 4 years. He lives in a two family home, which is accessed by a driveway. The owner of the property lives in one of the dwelling units. Joe wakes up, goes outside to find his vehicle has a parking ticket. He is charged with violation of VC50, parking in a crosswalk.
